Daedalian Medal
The Daedalian Medal is presented annually to outstanding Junior ROTC cadets at participating high schools. The Daedalian Medal is considered one of the most prestigious awards given to JROTC cadets and is normally presented by a current Daedalian at a formal awards ceremony.
The qualifications for this award are:
High schools may request the medals from a local flight in their area. High schools may also order directly through Ira Green Incorporated. The Daedalians national headquarters provides medals to participating Daedalian Flights. The HQ does not provide medals to individual JROTC units.
The Daedalians provide a certificate, which can be presented to the student at the time they are presented the award. There is also qualification data and the presentation information which should be read during the presentation of the award by a local Daedalian or JROTC instructor. In 2023 Flight 9 sent medal sets to 51 JROTC units in Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Kentucky, and West Virginia. Daedalians attended 15 events at local high schools to present these awards in person. The following Daedalians represented Flight 9 at these ceremonies: Jim DeStout, Jim Heathcote, Gavin Ketchen, Tim Kunzweiler, Jerry Millhouse, Ken Normand, Jim Pfaff, Fred Pumroy, Roger Redwood and Kathy Staiger. - Has demonstrated patriotism, love of country and service to our nation.
- Has indicated the potential and desire to pursue a military career.
- Ranks in the upper 10 percent of his or her JROTC class.
- Ranks in the upper 20 percent of his or her high school class
